Type: Canvas Tent
Location: Watsonville, CA
Watsonville is a small town close by to Santa Cruz. It is a small farming town with a laid-back feel that is the antithesis of the tech-ladden cities of the Bay Area.
Coming in from the South Bay Area, we were treated to a scenic drive through the windy forest roads of Route 17 and the coastal views of Route 1. The scenery that we soaked in was just an appetizer for what this Hipcamp spot had in store for us.
When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by Jacob, a SoCal native who makes you feel so welcomed on his property. Right off the bat, we knew Jacob was all about hospitality and wanted to make sure that we were as comfortable as possible during our stay. Jacob toured us through his property and gave us the intricate history of the estate and how it became the place it is today, a lush green escape from the bustle of the tech world.
As we walked through the backyard, we could see the white tent stand out prominently in the backdrop of green trees and bushes. The tent sat on a sturdy deck and housed all of the amenities that you would find at a higher end glamping site. Besides a comfy queen bed, the tent had a Nespresso machine, hot water boiler, plates, cups, utensils and some cooking tools (you should probably bring your own stove and pans). There is also a cooler for you to store your perishables. The campsite also allows for campfires in the firepit which is a great way to enjoy an intimate evening with friends. Jacob also provides a space heater for those cooler nights in the winter.
In short, we loved our stay here. Jacob was a wonderful host and we loved this enthusiasm. Although we came during the winter months, I think the site would be even more beautiful in the spring and fall (especially when you can experience the harvest festival of the farm town as well as all the rose bushes on the site!), and we would love to come back and stay here again.
