First Time in New York

First Time in New York

I spent my first weekend on the east coast, exept that one weekend I went to Philadelphia to check out Bryn Mawr for 2 days back when I thought I might live in a castle.. Cough. Didn't happen :/

But! New York ended up being amazing (albeit a little cold). I was a little apprehensive about exploring the city by myself, but it was sort of liberating having to figure things out by myself and strolling through the streets of this vast city. It was also great hanging out with Gramps and some of my architecture friends - Jordan & Anna!

Test \\ Ken

Test shoot with Kenta today. It was awesome getting to photograph his extremely extensive wardrobe.

I've really only photographed him once or twice before although I've been wanting to do a proper shoot for a long time. It sounds really corny but a couple of these photos show the way he appears in my mind when I see him ( sorry, does that make sense?). That's what I love about photography, a single photo can be a love letter if you want it to be. Not saying that this is one!! Hahaha.

Overall, super-fly human being :)

Studio Test // Charlie Headshots

I got a new set of lights and the 85mm 1.8 lens today. Shout-out to Stephen from SnappyJoe for selling me such great equipment! I tested the new Hensel lights out in my living room (I also found out my apartment is waaaaaayyy too small to be setting up massive light modifiers, haha). The Hensel lights are amazing! The lights are very even and give very nice output.

Other big news: finally got our schedules to sync up and had the great opportunity to photograph Charlie

Here's some of my favorite photos from today:

Test \\ Lighting

Went with Dino to UCLA today for some lighting practice. It's so weird to be back on campus, but oddly refreshing. We didn't have wireless transmitters so it was odd to try and use model lamps for the lights. I'm more used to very high-light, clean portraits that are evenly lit; but we experimented with more "mood" lighting (two lights -- one from the side, one from the front) that shown on only a part of her face. Overall, it was a nice experiment and I always have a lovely time with Dino :)

I also realize that my portfolio is almost completely built on pictures of her and my sister.. I need to find new models soon... Anyone out there who wants to collab, let me know!
